White folks who think Lupita shouldn’t win, believe so because they think Black people can inherently play a slave, they believe we are inherently inferior. In their minds being a slave isn’t a stretch, because how hard is it to portray yourself.
Short Film ‘After Trayvon’ Explores What It Means To Be A Black Man In America
Powerful. One thing that especially hit me during this video: We internalize the oppressor’s fear of ourselves. We are taught to not trust our brothers and sisters. We are taught to constantly edit ourselves - not for approval, but survival. We are taught Black is bad, white is right. Yet, these ideas don’t stay this simple throughout lifetimes; they contour into messy knots inside of us, leaving a host of internal mental and emotional damage.
To be Black in America means to be constantly in danger, of discrimination and internalized fear. The blog I’m reblogging this from - knowledgeequalsblackpower - holds the key in its’ name: we must educate ourselves. Learn our history, the truth about ourselves. No, it won’t lead to instant freedom. But it’s a damn good start.
Miles Davis covered in blood after an altercation with police
"Altercation" sounds so polite, like it was a mutual thing and not one man getting assaulted by the police. Miles got beat up by the police.
The cops assaulted Miles because he was black. He was standing outside Birdland where he just performed and was taking a break. His name was on the marquee. They saw him escort a white female friend from the club into a taxi and then they approached him after as he was taking a smoke break. The cops told him to “move on”. Miles said he was playing at the club and was on break. They weren’t hearing any of that. One cop then punched him in the stomach, while another one cracked him on the head with a nightstick. That’s why he’s covered in blood. He was a victim of police brutality.
Probably my favorite thing about Bob’s Burgers is that they don’t do that thing where the characters try to one-up each other with an endless barrage of jokes? No, the characters react like actual people instead. They actually laugh or chuckle when somebody says something actually funny and/or weird. They stop mid-sentence. They do double-takes. And it all feels so very natural, because that is exactly what common people do. And that is such a refreshing change of pace, when you consider the fact that the norm in these things is to have jokes relentlessly thrown at you at break-necking speed.
also the comedy doesn’t rely on the parents hating and berating eachother idk i love that
it shows how you don’t need to be offensive to be funny
